    Magellan is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to our website, as explained in this privacy notification. This privacy policy applies while you are visiting the Magellan website and using our applications and online features.     Information We May Collect and What We Do With it

    The information gathered by MagellanHealth.com falls into two categories: (1) personally identifiable information voluntarily supplied by visitors to our website through optional registration or other methods, and (2) non-personally identifiable information routinely gathered as visitors navigate through our site.

    Personal Information

    When you visit and navigate our website, we collect personal information only if you voluntarily provide us that information. Personal information includes data unique to you, such as your name, address, e-mail address or telephone number. This information helps us properly tailor our site and arrange the content and services you see on our site to make them more useful for you.

    Many of our applications require you to input your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, and/or MIS number or TIN. This information is stored in our database to provide you the best possible experience on our website and to update our records.

    This information is kept secure and made available only to Magellan employees who have a legitimate business need to know it in order to serve you. We do not rent, sell, or otherwise distribute your personal information. We do not provide this information to third parties except as required by law.

    Log Files

    Log files let us know how people are accessing the website and are used to create aggregate reports of site activity. Each time you visit a page on our website, the page displays on your computer and a log file is created to tell us someone has visited that page. We do not collect any information about you during this process.

    We compile these log files and report on all pages of the site in order to see what areas of our website receive the most attention and which areas do not. Magellan complies with all applicable state and federal laws regarding the protection of your personal information.

    To access certain services within our site we may ask for more personal information than you provided during registration. We may share this information only with the Magellan staff who will provide the service to you. For example, we may share personal information such as your name, personal mailing address, and phone number when updating your information in our database.

    Our Website Security

    This website utilizes careful safety measures to protect our users' information. When you log in to the secure areas of MagellanHealth.com, your information is maintained in a secure and safe environment. This part of the site does not send or receive personal or confidential information.

    Some areas of our website require passwords, identification numbers (IDs), and/or personal IDs. We use these to allow access to our information. We do not associate you with your user ID and password. Where necessary, we ask you to enter more than one ID to provide tighter security. We do not provide your user ID and password information to anyone.

    Transfer of Data

    Magellan uses a firewall to prevent unauthorized access to our internal network and information. A firewall is a system of software and/or hardware. It examines all messages we receive and blocks any message that does not meet the security criteria that we have in place. We use secure methods such as https and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to pass these messages through the firewall to our internal systems.

    Magellan limits the number of ports or doorways to our private information, and we use several tools to monitor these doorways. These tools help us identify and handle attacks or problems such as viruses, worms, DOS attacks, and Trojan horse programs.

    Magellan's web servers and databases receive annual security reviews. We also apply necessary updates or patches on a regular basis.

    Encryption can be very helpful in protecting and securing data, but is only as effective as the security of YOUR browser. Browsers use different encryption methods or levels. MagellanHealth.com requires you to use a 128-bit encryption browser. You can download it for free from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/download-ie . You can check your browser encryption level by clicking "Help" in the menu bar.

    You can see when a web page is communicating on a secure channel by looking for the lock in the status bar located at the bottom of the Web browser page. When you log in to the secure areas of our Web site, look for the lock. When it is closed, security is active. See the example below:

    E-mail and Secure Messages

    We handle all information and correspondence you share with us in the strictest confidence. When you send comments or questions to us using any e-mail address or messaging service listed on our website, we share your message only with those Magellan employees most capable of answering your questions and concerns. We will retain your communication until we have done our best to provide a complete and satisfactory response. We then archive all messages received. We keep your e-mail address in our secure database so we can contact you, as needed.

    Be aware that while your e-mail message is in transit to us, it is possible for other Internet users to access and view it without your knowledge and permission. (This is true of most, if not all, non-encrypted Internet e-mail communications.) For that reason, to protect your privacy and the privacy of others, please do not send e-mail to us with information you consider personal or confidential even if the channel is secured.     To secure the electronic transmission of protected health information (PHI), sensitive and other confidential data, Magellan offers the use of a secure e-mail application, “Zix™ desktop client” to its providers. The HIPAA Security Rule that complements the Privacy Rule mandates those who handle this sensitive information address encryption of PHI in email communication. When sending or receiving e-mail containing PHI, the application encrypts and decrypts the message allowing only the intended recipient permission to see the information. It has many basic features that should be familiar if you are accustomed to receiving and replying to e-mail, opening attachments, saving documents and other basic e-mail features. Learn more about Zix.

    When you send correspondence to Magellan or Magellan employees, including e-mails and faxes, we retain such information in the records of your account. We also retain customer service correspondence and other communication from Magellan to you. We retain these records to measure and improve our customer service, and to investigate potential fraud and violations of our User Agreement. We may, over time, delete these records if permitted by law.

    Cookies

We primarily use temporary cookies. Once you leave the Magellan website or close your browser, the temporary cookie goes away.

    We use cookies to recognize that your computer has logged onto our website. There is no link between a cookie and any personally identifiable information about you.
